Retailers, such as Argos and Currys, have announced clearance events during the January sales across a wide range of products. Televisions were prominently promoted as retailers cleared old stock to make room for new products hitting the market later in the year.
Brand View analysed the promotion of the television category across Argos, Currys, John Lewis, Tesco Direct and Very to see whether January is a better time to buy a television than over the Black Friday weekend.
Looking at the percentage of the television range on promotion, we can see that Argos, Currys and John Lewis all noticeably increased the number of television promotions since Christmas.
Argos, Tesco Direct and Very all had a greater percentage of their television range on promotion on 17 January 2018 than on Black Friday (24 November 2017).
Some 90.6 percent of the televisions Very promoted on 17 January 2018 were also promoted on Black Friday. Argos had the lowest overlap of promoted products, with just 44 percent of its promoted Televisions on 17 January 2018 also on promotion on Black Friday.
